- How did I get here?
- I don't know. You tell us. Something dropped you in.
You can pop in on the street, in someone's bathroom, on the roof of a Burgershot. For some reason always in Los Santos, but that's probably just bad luck.
- What can I bring with me?
- Whatever is on you at the time. Magic won't work until certain events (so you might want to hang onto those magical items). Space lasers will be neat but useless once they run out of juice. They'll probably also get the attention of the IAA. They're doing UFO research, after all.
- So no magic?
- Not until plot says so. But considering this is the same universe that Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare happened in, some fun stuff can be cobbled up.
- How are we expected to get by if we came in with nothing?
- That's how most GTA protagonists start, anyway. It's safe to assume some odd jobs and small money, and some early low-rent housing. As with the GTA Online protagonist, you can choose a car as yours. Big money should be earned with other characters, and hopefully plots to do that.
- How does the Network community work?
- The network for this game is Lifeinvader, which is a lot like our Facebook. The way posting works? Go to a computer (or steal one) or use a smart phone (or steal one) and post messages. It'll be mostly text, or you could post a video and people could comment on it in text. You can X-post entries from Blogsnobs.org.
Everyone new on LifeInvader will automatically be a part of an "Out of Town" community that they can use to make public posts to other newcomers. You can send private messages or filter to specific groups, too.
Also this is where you'd stick your phone calls between characters (including group calls between a few people). Phone conversations? Surprisingly important in this world. Or unsurprisingly. Who cares. You need a phone. Get a phone.
What you should do is if you have a bunch of messages to post to LifeInvader or phone calls to make, use a single post for them all rather than individual entries and just note who they're for. Spare everyone the commspam.
- How can I post to logs?
- Basically the same you'd post to any other logs community. Header and then prose or log tags. A copy and paste for log headers is here and can be found at the top of the log comm as a sticky post. You can use action or prose tags.
- What if we play someone from the Grand Theft Universe?
- Tricky, huh? Especially since so many of them end up dead. So Option A.) If they're not dead, account for what they've been doing up to right after the end of GTA V. Option B.) If they're dead, do an alternate timeline that shunted them. Option C.) If you want to take them from an earlier canonpoint? See option B.) and deal with the unfortunate issue of possible doubles. Characters taken from A.) can come in with any resources they have.
- Speaking of doubles, can I app a double?
- If the other player is okay with it? Sure. (So long as they're not identical versions, with only canon points to separate them). But just two versions of any character or else it just gets confusing.
- What about OCs?
- No OCs, but you can app malleable protagonists from other canons, people with cutscenes, dialog options, or personality open to interpretation.
- What if my character was in another game and I want to keep their history?
- Go ahead. Include it in the app so any developments in their personality make sense. But if the character is so far removed from the canon version that they're unrecognizable they'll probably be rejected.
- Can I have a pet?
- Yes. You can even bring a pet. But your pet is going to be stuck looking like a normal earth pet if it was an alien one.
- Can I rid the world of violence and corruption?
- No, but you could probably get a movie made about it here if you pitched it to the right people.
- What is the currency like here?
- Basically like ours. Though it can be noted that the bills look a little different.
- What if I want to go to one of the other HD cities?
- San Fierro, Las Venturas, and Vice City all supposedly exist in the HD universe but haven't been defined yet. It's probably easier to interact at the moment by sticking to Liberty City and Blaine County. But your character might hear plenty about these other cities while they're getting around.
- What if we do a plot that severely damages a (or a lot of) building(s)?
- The damage will probably be repaired quickly, but bounties might be placed on your head. Also the buildings here? A lot more sturdy than in most worlds (they started to build them better just because that became a little bit of a problem).
- Can my character die?
- Yes. Sometimes. Your character can be killed three times (because whatever shunts them into the universe will put them right back) before they hit a permanent death.
However there are doctors and hospitals with mind-boggling health care programs so your character can get very badly hurt, too. Wounds will scar, lost limbs will stay lost, but broken bones can be mended much more quickly. All of this will come with a hefty fee.
If you want to kill your character off, you're allowed.
- Can I affiliate with one of the existing gangs?
- Yes, you're very much encouraged to. Or you can start your own, especially after you've been around a while and worked up the money to do so. An existing gang can't be overrun or have their territory taken from them, though, unless it's a part of a game-wide plot.
- Can I work for the LCPD, the LSPD, the FIB, or the IAA?
- Yes, but you won't be able to stop the corruption from within. You can make use of the police computer to help hunt down criminals. You'll make money off the bounty, and even though they will probably be able to bribe their way out you at least managed that.
- Can I open a business?
- Yes! As of GTA V business ownership was a thing you could do. But not immediately. Five months of consistent AC? And it will be assumed that your character has been active and hard-working enough to open a business. Then you can help it thrive and protect it. You can open one in either Los Santos or Liberty City (and the related areas).
- Wait, I can bribe my way out of trouble?
- Yeah, but they'll take all your weapons and it's really hard on the wallet.
- Well, if I get involved with one of the gangs, what sort of work is there for me?
- A lot, but to simplify it think this: bookie, thief, muscle, assassin, bodyguard, smuggler, dealer, accountant. Better if someone goes at it with an associate than try to do it all themselves, just for CR purposes.
- What if I want to drop or hiatus?
- Go to the mod-contact page and fill out a form. There will also be an option on either of what to assume happened to your character after they've left/you can't play them. And please, please announce it on the OOC Community. Not everyone talks on AIM or Plurk.
If you just idle out, your character will be generically assumed "probably dead or something".
